Summer 08

After the hard work, the delicious reward.

June update

The recent heavy downpours have resulted in an upsurge of growth! As the photos show, onions, garlic & potatoes are growing well & we look forward to our first taste of early potatoes soon. First tasting of radish revealed some maggots had invaded & some sowings of lettuce fell victim to the pigeons. Further sowings have been covered in netted frames. Rows of salad items, such as beetroot, landcress, celery, tomatoes, rocket & corn salad are coming on well as are lots of vegetables - swede, spinach, broad beans, dwarf beans, peas, runner beans, carrots, parsnips, squash & cabbage . For the first time we are trying aubergine & celeriac this year. The 2 fruit trees (apple & plum) have baby fruit on them, we have been enjoying the rhubarb & we also look forward to raspberries, blackberries, gooseberries & strawberries. On the flower front, sunflowers have been planted, along with wallflowers & we have been picking bunches of sweet williams. We also have a thriving herb patch.
